Seared Ahi with Wasabi Slaw


I love this recipe. Holy delicious! While sushi grade Ahi can be on the expensive side, the taste is well worth the cost. It is a perfect dinner for two, or an appetizer for a few.

Seared Tuna with Wasabi Slaw

This Asian inspired Ahi tuna will be a treat for seafood lovers. Topped with wasabi slaw, this dish will mimic the flavors of
sushi, but without the labor intensive preparation process.

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 2 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:

Seared Tuna

1 large sushi grade Ahi tuna steak
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon red pepper
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon thyme
¼ teaspoon oregano
⅛ teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon coconut oil

Wasabi Slaw

1 cup coleslaw, finely diced
4 teaspoons Paleo mayonnaise
4 teaspoons coconut aminos
2 teaspoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoon wasabi paste

1. In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, red pepper, onion powder, thyme, oregano, and sea salt. In a frying pan, heat the coconut oil over high heat. Pat the Ahi steak dry. Rub the spice mixture onto the steak, coating it completely. Fry the steak for one minute per side. Remove and cut into thin slices.

2.In a bowl, whisk together the Paleo mayonnaise, coconut aminos, rice vinegar, and wasabi paste. Add half
of the wasabi dressing to the coleslaw and toss. Arrange the Ahi on a serving platter.  Distribute coleslaw
down the center of the seared Ahi and drizzle with the remaining wasabi dressing.

Tip: Make sure to buy the tuna the same day you are making it. You want it very fresh because the middle is raw.
