Beef and Broccoli
Tonight I served up a traditional Chinese dish. Sometimes, my fiancé orders this from take-out when I don't have time to cook. I decided I would try to replicate the dish on my own at home and I was 100% pleased with the outcome. So long take-out, hello make-in!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
1 lb boneless round steak or chuck steak, cut in thin strips
2 heads broccoli
1 small yellow onion, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, minced
or 3 tablespoons coconut aminos
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon fish sauce
1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)
1 teaspoon ginger
2-3 dashes of arrowroot powder
1. Cut the broccoli into small florets and steam them until tender.Set aside.
2. In a large frying pan, heat the garlic and olive oil over medium-high heat for 1 minute. Add the onion and beef, and sauté until beef is nearly cooked. Then, add in the tamari sauce, fish sauce, maple syrup, ginger, ground red pepper, and crushed red pepper. Stir until combined.
3. Mix the broccoli florets with the beef and sauce in the pan. Sprinkle the dish with a dash of arrowroot powder.Stir constantly and watch for a minute as the sauce thickens. If you want it thicker, add another dash of arrow root powder. Serve hot.
*This pairs nicely with some cauliflower rice or fresh pineapple*
